PUSH Therapy for Chronic Muscle Tension

Diana Shapiro, Certified PUSH Therapist, offers PUSH treatment for all conditions caused by chronic muscle tension, including tendonitis, plantar faschitis, sciatica, frozen shoulder, headaches, and much more...

PUSH Therapy, developed by Michael Takatsuno, is a technique that blends physical therapy and massage with the principles of Tai Chi to create relaxed, supple muscle tissue in order to reduce tension and pain and maximize mobility.  Diana Shapiro is a Certified PUSH Therapist and is happy to offer PUSH treatment in Berkeley, CA.

What is PUSH?

PUSH Therapy is the most comprehensive system of bodywork and training ever developed for chronic tension and pain relief.  PUSH therapists offer truly long-term pain relief by addressing the source of acute pain and chronic tension. Our program includes Soft Pressure Stimulationsm techniques, self-treatment and mobility training, to achieve safe, consistent and often dramatic results.  The word PUSH stands for Power Under Soft Hands.

PUSH treatments are done on a massage table, with the patient fully clothed. Patients wear loose, comfortable clothing such as sweatpants, cotton t-shirts, etc. Heavy clothing or clothing with thick seams, such as jeans, is not recommended.

Many new patients are wary of being sold into a program of endless visits and temporary change with no end in sight. Our solution is the PUSH Treatment PlanSM program, part of the training for all Certified PUSH TherapistSM professionals. PUSH therapists are trained to provide each patient with a customized program that follows specific treatment protocols for evaluating progress through treatments, teaching self-treatment and PUSH Mobility training. As pain and tension decrease, more education and training is emphasized until the patient is free of pain and tension, has a new way of using the body, and can practice self-care on his own. Naturally, exactly how many treatments it will take any individual client before he is pain free depends on the nature of the symptoms being treated, the quality of the tissue, and other factors. The treatment plan includes evaluation of progress at regular intervals and open assessment regarding whether to continue.

I am a certified PUSH Therapist trained by Michael Takatsuno and his highly qualified staff of experienced PUSH Therapists.  Michael is a pioneer in the field of bodywork for chronic pain and blends many years of experience as a professional athlete, a Zen teacher and practitioner, a Tai Chi instructor and practitioner, and a physical therapist.  He developed PUSH therapy out of his own experience of getting himself out of severe, chronic pain and wanting to help others to do the same.

I have also been in practice as a psychotherapist for eight years.  PUSH therapy helped me so much with my aches and pains that, though I enjoy my work as a psychotherapist, I was inspired to become a body worker so I could share PUSH with others.
